Bareebo manufactures, delivers and installs 4,000 liter rainwater harvesting (RRH) cisterns. During Cambodia’s wet monsoon season (June-November), rainwater collected from rooftops and stored in 4,000 liter RRH cisterns can meet all the domestic needs for a family of five: drinking, food preparation, cooking, washing hands, bathing, washing dishes, brushing teeth and washing clothes.
Bareebo manufactures its RRH cisterns at its self-owned production site. Add more information here.
During the dry season, a family of five will have between 22-33 liters of water to use per day, depending on the length and severity of the dry season. Bareebo trains people how to manage this dry season water supply so that the 4,000 liters can meet basic needs until the next rainy season.
Outcomes and Outputs
People taking part in Bareebo’s RRH project in Thngoeur Village reported spending 2 hours and 10 minutes a day in dry season water collection activities when Bareebo first started working in the village.
Less than two years later, this same group of people said they spent 49 minutes a day collecting water in the dry season. Over the course of a single dry season, a typical household is saving approximately 245 hours of time by having RRH cisterns installed in their homes.
Additionally, before Bareebo’s RRH project started in 2010, 88% of families taking part in the RRH project used pond water as their primary dry season water source, with only 13% using rainwater. After the RRH project was introduced into the communities, 93% of families are now using rainwater (a much cleaner and healthier water source than pond water) as their primary household water source. Finally, 84% of families say that RRHs can help solve their household water needs and 100% say they are satisfied with their RRH systems.
